China’s PHWR is Accelerating Recycling Uranium of Whole Reactor Appliction

China’s PHWR is Accelerating Recycling Uranium of Whole Reactor Application

Chief Executive Officer at Dynatom International GmbH
The first coordination meeting on reforming of PHWR production line was recently organized by the owner of Qinshan Nuclear Power Company and China North Nuclear Fuel Co., Ltd. Both sides reached agreement on ensuring the production line to be finished on schedule and to promote conditions to ensure the recycling uranium of the whole reactor application program in 2014.

It is reported that once the recycling uranium of the whole reactor application was implemented, both two PHWRs of Qinshan NPP will consume 140 tons of recycling uranium and 60 tons of depleted uranium per year, which will save 200 tons of natural uranium resources for China that equals to the annual production capacity of a medium-sized uranium mine.
This project is one of the technology innovation project that the owner company vigorously promoted in recent years, which is in line with China’s development direction to build a resource-saving and environment-friendly society.
